Withdrawals and R2T4 on the ledger

For owners & finance staff · Updated September 30, 2026

What Atticus records when a student withdraws, and where the Return of Title IV funds calculation starts.

When a student withdraws, the money side and the compliance side have to agree. Atticus captures both from the same record.

What is captured at withdrawal

  • Last date of attendance (LDA) — from the attendance record, not typed in.
  • Date of determination and reason.
  • The withdrawal clock, if one was running (three consecutive missed sessions start a 14-day determination clock under 34 CFR 668.22).

R2T4 on the ledger

A Return of Title IV funds calculation produces an amount the school must return. Record it on the student’s ledger as an R2T4 return; it appears in its own category so it is never confused with a refund to the student. The ledger then shows the student’s remaining balance, if any.
